Image quality
The image quality in DVB-S is different in each country. In essence, the quality is affected by
the bit rate used and the Reception.
The transmitted bit rate is determined by individual TV stations and which can only be
changed. If you are receiving strong mosaics, artefacts or a blurred image, you may be try-
ing to change the position of the basin in order to ensure a better reception. However, it is
for example not even with conditions to ensure optimal reception on some TV stations, bet-
ter quality, because the transmitted bit rates are too low.
Here are some examples of the different bit rates for Germany:
ZDF
4000 to 5500 kbps
ARD
6000 to 6000 kbps
Third Program
2500 to 7000 kbps
Private TV stations
1800 to 5000 kbps
The higher the bit rate is sent, the better the picture quality can be and the image contains
fewer artefacts, mosaics or interference.
The sharpness of the image depends also on the bit rate in addition to the resolution and
sent us, the source material. Generalization can be said that the higher the resolution, the
sharper the picture. Some TV stations broadcast with smaller resolutions than others.
Here are some examples of Germany, the different resolutions:
Public Legal TV
720x576 or 704x576 pixels
Individual Private TV Channel
544x576 or 528x576 pixels
The reception conditions, you can have impact on themselves. Frequent signs of a poor
reception for example, is a frozen image or the message "No Signal".
Align the satellite dish exactly. Very heavy rain or snow fall also affects the quality of recep-
tion.
