Double M/S for ENG and documentary: the CMIT Double M/S setup
The shotgun microphone CMIT 5 can also be the front-facing element as well as the
mechanical center for a Double M/S system. It may be mounted on a boom for direct multi-
channel capture of production sound, as shown in the photo below. The resulting setup
provides both a “present” dialog signal as well as multichannel ambience, all of which can
furthermore be processed in post-production. The matrix MDMS U and the plug-in are not
compatible with this setup, though. The setup requires only three channels on the recorder.
