Description
The SMA inverters can be equipped with various interfaces. This Short Description
describes the later installation of a Sunny Boy, Sunny Mini Central or Windy Boy with
a Piggy-Back for communication. Following communication interfaces are available:
• RS485 (485PB-NR, 485PB-MS-NR, 485PB-SMC-NR)
• RS232 (232PB-NR, 232PB-MS-NR, 232PB-SMC-NR)
• Powerline (NLMPB-NR)
Caution: All maintenance works on an inverter, and especially
opening of an inverter, are only to be conducted by a qualified
electrician! When installing a Piggy-Back in an inverter please note
all protective countermeasures of the Installation Guide of the in-
verter.
Caution: Any work within the enclosure of the inverter is only allo-
wed when the inverter is disconnected from the supply voltage.
Open the inverter as described in the Installation Guide of the in-
verter.
Caution: Pay attention to all applicable ESD protective counterme-
asures! The inverter is assembled with components that are very
vulnerable to electrostatic discharge. Make sure that you are elec-
trically connected to the enclosure of the inverter before you touch
anything inside the enclosure.
Note: When upgrading Sunny Boys type "SWR" for RS232 or RS485 commu-
nication please note: The resistors under the Piggy-Back must be removed for
correct operation. More information for removing the resistors you find in this
manual
