Type DGSL-C
1 Function and application
The clamping unit DGSL-C holds the piston rod with
frictional locking in an intermediate or end position for the
mini slide.
When the supply port 2 is exhausted, a spring pushes
the clamping jaws apart. When the clamping jaws are
pushed apart, they are tilted onto the piston rod. This
frictional locking holds the piston rod.
When the supply port 2 is pressurized, a piston pushes
the clamping jaws together. The holes in the clamping
jaws are now aligned with the piston rod. The piston rod
can now move freely.
2
2
The intended use of the clamping unit DGSL-C is to secure
the piston rod of a DGSL mini slide (e.g. when installed
vertically).
The piston rod must not be clamped when moving
(= braking).
In the event of sudden pressure failure, the DGSL-C
may only be used if followed by a functional test
(
! Operation). Except for sudden pressure failures, the
rod may only be clamped in the intermediate or end posi-
tions of the mini slide, referred to as “parking positions”
in the following.
The clamped piston rod resting in a parking position may
be pressurized only in the chamber on the stroke side
(chamber K
h
). This is to prevent the piston from moving in
the direction of a non-pressurized chamber when clamping
is released.

2 Conditions of use
Please note

The braking of the slide can destroy the clamping unit.
• With normal regular clamping ensure that:
– Clamping is released only in the pressurized
intermediate or end position of the mini slide.
– He clamping unit is pressurized and exhausted
only when the piston rod is at rest.
– There are no dynamic forces.
Please note

Incorrect handling can lead to malfunctioning.
• The DGSL operating instructions must be observed at
all times.
The technical data for the clamping unit DGSL-C may
restrict the specifications for the DGSL in the operat-
ing instructions.
3 Mechanical installation
Please note

• Observe the limited mounting options when
mounting the proximity sensors in the lower groove.
Temporarily unlocking by hand (! Fig. 2):
• Using a round bar 4 (e.g. Ø 4 x 50 mm), press the
piston against the spring force until the piston rod can
be moved freely.
Permanently unlocking when setting (! Fig. 3):
• Screw an M5 screw 5 into the threaded hole on the
supply port until the piston rod can be moved freely.
The maximum torque is 0.5 Nm.

Warning
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Uncontrolled moving parts can cause injury to people in
the vicinity of the DGSL-C.
• Make sure that the DGSL-C is logically controlled in a
correct manner. The clamping mechanism can be
damaged as a result of incorrect control. This can
result in the slide suddenly advancing or retracting.
• When the DGSL is pressurized, make sure that:
– nobody places their hand in the path of the slide.
– there are no objects in the positioning range.
Please note
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
The actuators will be considerably accelerated.
• Ensure that the DGSL is pressurized only in the
parking position when clamping is released.
Movement against a non-pressurized chamber will
create an acceleration which can damage the mini
slide.
Please note
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
The actuators may perform sudden unexpected
movements.
• Avoid exceeding the static holding force
(
! Technical specifications).
• Make sure that the DGSL has reached the parking posi-
tion during the motion sequence before exhausting and
clamping the DGSL-C.
• Observe the commissioning instructions for the DGSL in
the operating instructions (
! Commissioning DGSL).
To release the clamp hold on the DGSL mini slide:
1.Exhaust the DGSL.
2.Push the slide by hand into the defined parking position
(e.g. the end position when retracted).
Manually release the clamp at the same time.
3.First pressurize the supply port for the parking position
on the DGSL, and then the DGSL-C.
4.Complete commissioning in accordance with the oper-
ating instructions for the DGSL.
• Make sure that the operating pressure on the DGSL-C is
as follows:
To release
To clamp
Min. 3 bar
Max. 0.5 bar
Lower pressures will impair the
release of the clamp hold.
Excessively long and narrow
tubing between the valve and the
DGSL-C will delay clamping.
5 Operation
Clamping the piston rod during operation:
• Pressurize the supply port for the park position on the
DGSL.
• Exhaust the DGSL-C and then the DGSL.
To move the DGSL out of a parking position:
• Pressurize the following supply ports simultaneously:
– the port in the stroke-side chamber of the parking
position on the DGSL
– the port on the DGSL-C clamping unit.
If there is a change in the useful load:
• Compare the specified safe loads with your actual
application (
! Technical data).
Checking the clamp hold:
• Position the slide in a parking position:
– by hand
– by pressurizing the supply ports on both sides
on the DGSL and then exhausting a supply port.
Release the clamp at the same time.
This is required after a sudden pressure failure if the
slide is not in the parking position.
• At regular intervals or after a sudden pressure failure,
check for secure clamping without useful load as
follows:
– pressurize DGSL in parking position
– exhaust DGSL-C
– pressurize DGSL in stroke direction.
The piston rod must not move.
With all applications
• Keep the piston rod from becoming dirty.
Oil and grease residue on the piston rod reduces the
clamping capacity.
6 Disassembly and repairs
Disassembly:
Please note
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
The actuators may perform sudden unexpected
movements.
• Make sure that both mini slide and clamping unit are
exhausted.
If necessary:
• Make use of the opportunity to have your clamping unit
overhauled by our repair service.
The clamping unit does not usually require maintenance.
